Resurgence of Versace Jeans Couture

Rooted in the iconic designs from Gianni and Donatella Versace, Versace Jeans Couture represents a clash of worlds: casual wear and couture in a battle to produce a collection that is an elevation of streetwear, steeped in detail and stunning high fashion design.

Versace Jeans Couture | SS20 - BRAVÒ

“When creating the new collection for Versace Jeans Couture, I focused my attention on the juxtaposition of the apparently opposite world of denim and couture” “The idea I had in mind was to elevate streetwear not only of quality, but most importantly in creativity and details” Donatella Versace said in a statement.

Versace Jeans Couture is meant for people who know what they want, who own their style because they have a strong personality and a sense of individuality. Boys and girls who don’t want to be necessarily labelled in one way or another, but who want to be able to express themselves through their fashion choices.

The collection brings about many of the design elements from the Versace mainline, with a modern twist to its foundational spirit of contempt and exuberance, Versace Jeans Couture features trademark colour ways with contemporary motifs. Bringing about Haute Couture into the world of streetwear, the old and new diffusion line reinterprets the Italian fashion house’s world through a new generation’s perspective.

Heart Evangelista visits Distinqt!

Last May 2019, Distinqt welcomed Heart Evangelista-Escudero into the store where she filmed a special tour and gave her personal style tips.

Ever since Distinqt opened in 2017, Heart has created iconic pairings in Distinqt brands and is a perfect example of a woman with her own distinct fashion sense and identity.

You can view all her looks in Distinqt pieces here.

One year since the date of filming, we share some behind-the-scenes photos and insights on her day with the team.

Surrounded by a new set of faces (the retail and brand team, film crew) Heart greeted everyone warmly. With years of experience under her belt, introductions proceeded to filming in no time.

Take a peek at her Instagram feed, and you will realize that Heart loves animals.

Her dogs were all adopted from shelters. Heart’s adorable favorite, Panda, came with her to the filming, mingling with the crew and curiously sniffing around the shelves.

Heart’s relationship with fashion is evident in the way her fingers linger over the fabric of the clothing and her eyes light up when she talks about her favorite pieces.

With the influence of social media in directing relevant looks and trends, coming across someone who is unafraid to play with fashion and create her own style is refreshing.

Fun fact: she once met up for dinner with our buying team during Paris Fashion Week, and she still smiles about the whole experience until now.

Heart Evangelista-Escudero and her entire team were exceedingly accommodating and warm during the entire shooting process. You can watch the final video tour below.

3 Spotify Tracklists for Quarantine (And Life After It)

3 Spotify Tracklists for Quarantine (And Life After It)
There's no doubt that music can soothe negative emotions and can even come to define certain periods in our lives.

For our team, this time has been one of rediscovery. We've been grappling with the new realities of our current work-from-home set-up, as well as a migration of all those things we used to do outside that have now been stationed indoors.

We're sharing several of our Spotify playlists that we hope will bring you as much enjoyment and relief during this stay-at-home period.

Slow down, reminisce, write a novel, do a headstand, feed the turtle. We're currently unoccupied, and the tunes are spinning over and over.

Take it easy, enjoy every bit of the process. Tune in to this playlist whether you're getting ready to start work (from home or not), to do a grocery run, to get back to your passion project or to do absolutely nothing.

Chill out to these tracks that are reminiscent of your last fashion holiday.

Distinqt Team Recommends: Films

Distinqt Team Recommends: Films
Netlflix has an impressive line-up of movies and series at the moment, but we would argue that plenty gems of films remain elusive to the streaming platform. Here are several of those titles we believe you should see, even if it means making a bit more of an effort to search for on the internet.

For our team, what we really look for in films to recommend is a certain quality of cinematic artistry, whether that be in the plot, music, cinematography, or set.

Enjoy!

1. The Shape of Water (2017)

An unlikely romance between a mute heroine and an underwater creature made for an alternative type of "fairy tale." The movie felt light and lyrical all throughout. Against the backdrop of America during the Cold War, the story also called to attention the general treatment of minorities during that era and made us question and who the monster really was.

2. The Florida Project (2017)

The Florida Project captured us with its liberal use of candy colors to tell a story about struggling households in Florida. Moving and authentic, this movie followed the endless antics of childhood contrasted against the hard realism that settles in after kids grow up.

3. Submarine (2010)

Submarine is a quirky coming-of-age story that has the usual elements of its genre -- adolescent romance, questions on mortality, high school life, and the rest. However, the story is told in a completely unusual manner, rounding out the flawed main and supporting characters, and evoking strong nostalgia and weird teenage angst.

4. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

A Space Odyssey is one of those classic films that must be watched in one's lifetime. The movie influenced a whole generation of sci-fi stories and modern inventions. We also loved seeing the Space Age fashion that was peppered in this technicolor film.

*2001: A Space Odyssey is now available for streaming on Netflix!

5. Big Fish (2003)

Tim Burton's Big Fish is a family movie with a lot of heart and heaps of fantastical elements characteristic of Burton's films. There's so much to love about this visually and emotionally stunning movie.

6. Chungking Express (1994)

A comedy-drama that is told in several parts, Chungking Express has come to be viewed as one of the best Asian films in cinematic history. Cops and waitresses take on a slick appeal in this glorious story directed by lauded filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai.

7. A Cure For Wellness (2016)

Last but not the least, we touch on A Cure For Wellness. This psychological horror film is set in an authentic abandoned castle that was revived solely for the film. This makes for a creepy, frozen-in-time feel to complement the chilling story.

Have you watched any of these films? We'd love to hear your thoughts and recommendations. Comment below on your favorites!
